anyway what is the best? which is relative and it depends on how we see things and how we like things.
as a consumer and a researcher in mobile interaction, I always like to see what is best.
iPOD was a survival rope for Apple and it turned the table from Microsoft

so main three players are now - iOS, Android, Windows Mobile/Windows Phone 7

going beyond phones, tablet (which we now refer as PADs), is another important market for Mobile OS.
Many says iPAD could turn the table or increase the momentum towards them until 2015. lets see. But I am interested to see this debate and fight.
